HI Josh, Welcome to PolarTREC. I hope you have a wonderful expedition. I too went to Barrow. I loved it- I will look forward to reading your journals. I was wondering if you had gotten a fill on how Fairbanks and New Orleans were alike? - ---- > drum roll please... they are both basins. I too am from New Orleans - although I live in South Florida now. Anyway- my question- how are you going to prepare your students for you expedition? Cheers - and will look forward to following your journal!

Elizabeth!
Wow, have I been negligent in posting a reply. After a summer out of internet contact, I'd been looking for message updates regarding "Ask the Team" comments. Now I know I just need to click the link...
I've just arrived in Fairbanks (and no, I wasn't aware it was a basin-bound town before you told me). Other similarities between the high Arctic and deep south I plan on sharing with my students include: the impacts of climate change in each region (wetland loss, change in hurricane strength and frequency in the Gulf; permafrost thaw, loss of sea ice in the North) and the impact that oil has on regional environments, ecologies, and economies. School will begin next week while I'm still in the field, though students will be following along with the expedition through their own journals. They will be comparing and contrasting the regions by tracking daily weather information and comparing the Deepwater Horizon spill to the Exxon Valdez... for starters! We start our work in earnest tomorrow, visiting our first research sites and arriving at Prudhoe Bay via the Haul Road tomorrow night. I'd love to hear about your experience in Barrow - particularly because we will be dealing much less with chemical composition than it seems your carbon balance research provided - and where in the heck you're from in NOLA.
Sorry again for the long delay. Anything I ought to be on mindful of as a science teacher visiting Barrow?
I look forward to chatting!
