What would be the most interesting find you saw when you studied the sample of a basal ice core?

Lindsay Knippenberg

Hi!
Thanks for the question. I would have to say that the most interesting thing that I learned from studying the basal ice is that the bacteria in the ice are actually alive and producing ATP. It is amazing to think that an organism can exist in such an extreme environment. However, there is still so much more to be learned from the ice samples that we collected. The ice samples that we flew home should have arrived to LSU and MSU last week so they can start analyzing them. The rest of the ice and rock samples are being sent home by ship so they should be delivered hopefully by April. Keep an eye out for new journals because once my team gets some results I will post their findings in a journal. Thanks for following along.
