Microorganisms in Antarctic Glacier Ice

Hi, from the 8th grade class of Mound Valley, Kansas. We would like to know what types of transportation you use?

Hi Haley, Jake, Riley, and Devyn!
Thanks for sending me a question all the way from Kansas. To get to Antarctica I got to ride in a C-17, which is a huge military cargo plane. To get to the Dry Valleys we rode in helicopters. I had never been in a helicopter before and I am definitely a huge fan now. Once we were in the Dry Valleys, whenever we had to go up to the glacier or anywhere else, we were hiking. The hike to the glacier every day was about a 15 minute hike, but it was up and down sand dunes. It was hard work and you were all sweaty by the time you got up to the tunnel everyday.
