Microorganisms in Antarctic Glacier Ice

hey from dallas from the mound valley 8th grade class and i have a question. Are you guys able to stay warm out side if so what do you wear to stay warm and how far is it from kansas to the mcmurdo station.

Hey Dallas
For the most part I stay pretty warm outside. If I am working outside I wear a layer of long underwear, a layer of fleece, and then really warm outerwear like my "big red" jacket and snow pants or thick carharts. I also wear good socks and boots on my feet and gloves and glove liners on my hands.
As for how far away I am from Kansas, I google earthed it for you and I am about 9,400 miles away from you right now.

Thank you so much for taking your time to talk with us. i have another question how many days does it take to for the process to be done in the ice core drilling process? how don't the tractors run out of gas if the do how do you get gas to it.

Thanks for more questions. Its good to know that someone is following my journals.
Here are some answers for you...
Ice Coring: The actual drilling of the ice cores only took a couple of days. However, it is going to take a long time to analyze the cores and the gas molecules trapped within them. Scott and Tim could take anywhere from 6 months to years looking at the cores they collected and analyzing them properly. 
Tractor Fuel: You are right, the tractors will need to be refueled and there aren't any gas stations out in the middle of Antarctica. To refuel, the tractors actually tow their own fuel and if they get low on gas they refuel as they go.
