Good Afternoon from Redd School. We started you off on some easy questions - by now the questions are starting to come thick and fast!

Quiz Time!

Simone: How cold is the water in Alaska? Have you had any luck with getting more supplies of water for the "Women's Hut" yet?

Rachel (Grade 8): Will your research have a great impact on knowledge in such a way as it will change the world?

Daniel: Have you seen any whales?

Anon: Will the teams be working in the same area- or more spread out? Are you making good progress each day- or do you feel that the weather and cracking ice is hampering your work?

Lucille: Are you close to any Inuit populations?

Many other questions are being answered in your detailed blogs! Too efficient!

Take care and looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Middle School! Looks like you're trying to stump the teacher- good! :)
Here are my answers!
Simone: Water temp is about -1.8C. that's the coldest it can get without freezing. And yes, the water situation has improved!
Rachel: Good question! The whole idea for doing research in Barrow is to help scientists get more information on how changing climate will affect life in this environment, beginning with the food web. The more information they can get, the better understanding they have about what is happening or could happen!
Daniel: No whales- the ocean is frozen solid where we're working. I haven't seen any water at all! But I'm told that Polar Bears have been seen not far from here!
Anon: We are working in the same location everyday, its the safest place. We are making good progress and today went very well. The weather is actually improved for now. The crack has not caused any problems . I'll try to get the latest on that tomorrow!
Lucille: The Inupiat make up about 60% of the population in Barrow .
Thanks for all your great questions! Now I have two for you all.
What does the word Inupiat mean? And, what does Ukpeagvik mean??
Weather update:
Right now the winds are gusting pretty good at about 31miles per hour (27 KT) and its blowing snow sideways. It actually warmed up today too, but right now its -8F (22.2C). The wind makes it feel like -32F (-36C)!!
Have a fun weekend :)
