What times of the year are ice ridges formed?- Ashton kray

Lollie Garay

Hi Ashton!Well, I'm not sure when the process begins but in January there was not as much buildup as there is now. I would imagine that as soon as sea ice begins to form, the wind and currents begin to move it, and it continues to ridge up as long as there's ice. I was told that the huge piles of ice along the coast were pushed there during heavy winds right after we left in January.
Thanks for your question :0
