Hey Everyone

Just wandering whether y'all have birds in Beaufort sea.  Auks?  Eiders?  Skuas? Jaegers?

Love the blog and the pictures.

Hello Toby,
Birds!  When it is cloudy and foggy or the ship is moving fast, birds are harder to spot.  Yesterday we had some sun, glorious sun, and scientist Kristina Brown spotted a Jaeger, a Northern Fulmar and (she thinks) a Kittiwake.  We have also seen gulls and terns.   We are in open water and with the bird on the wing and the ship under steam, photos are beyond the capabilities of my trusty Canon.
Also, I want you to know that I am running at least every other day, sometimes more. But I am not overtraining!
*Thank you* for following along, and I will keep my eyes out for birds and update you in a few days,
Cheers,
Gerty

So cool.  I love fulmars and their tube noses. I have seen them close up nesting on cliffs in Iceland.  Never seen a jaeger or kittiwake.  ID'ing pelagic birds on the wing is a true skill.  There is a new rock band from Texas named Shearwater.  I just saw that 5 million of them come up to the Bering Sea during the summer algal/krill blooms.
Just got a new bike.  One more way to overtrain!
 Stay safe!
