Is it correct that about July 27 the sun and the moon will be continously above the horizon?  Where is each one, east or west and how high in the sky at various times of day? Can you take some pictures?

Further south it is rare to see the sun rise (east) and the moon set (west) so that you can see them at the same time.

Dear Mot Iroc,
Hmmmmm.
The sun and moons position relative to the horizon will be dependednt upon our position on 27 July, so I cannot say if you statement is accurate until I know where I will be and I will not know that until 27 July.
Because the sun is continuously above the horizon now, it is difficult to see the moon.  Also, it has been cloudy!  We have seen the sun only briefly through gaps in an otherwise overcast sky.  Folks who have been on this cruise in previous years tell me that once we move further into the Beaufort Sea, the clouds will clear.
Yes, I can take pictures.  I must use the ship's GPS (or know which way we are heading)  because there aren't any landmarks to orient the compass.
BTW- a compass will not work on the ship.  Can you tell me why?
Thanks for making me think,

Gerty
