Hi Gerty,

Your posts from the Arctic are a nice reprieve from the Philly heat.

 A couple of questions....

What are your primary responsibilities on the expedition?  I know you make a mean chili, but I suspect the boat has a chef!  And, is the fridge stocked with Canadian beer?

I look forward to following the expedition and chatting again.

 Cheers,

Dave G.

Hello Dave!
Really nice to hear from you.  The food on the LSSL is excellent, and ever-present.  I  will not go hungry.
My job is to learn as much as I can about the work being done on the ship, then communicate it to students of all ages following my journal.  I have been on board for only 5 days and could talk for hours!  Once I am back at school in the fall, I will bring this experience back to my students.  The videos are especially compelling.  Check out the heli fly-in and the CTD deployment.
The ship has a bar that is open from 2000 to 2200 and is overseen by the Captain. Last night we had a meet-and-greet.  The kitchen provided killer chicken wings and the Captain led a lengthy sing-along.  Yes, Canadian beer is available.   The bar offers a great place for everyone one the ship to meet each other.
 Thanks for checking in!
