Hey my name is Dyllon and I'm from Macon Early College (MEC) and I was wondering what is the largest species you guys have ever caught???

Hi Dyllon!
The plankton nets are really designed to only catch the smaller organisms like phytoplankton and zooplankton. The type of jellyfish we caught the other day (in our Going on a Sea Cruise journal) is typically the largest organism that we catch in the nets. They're pretty goopy and leave bit and pieces of their tentacles on the inside of the net so it's not a favorite of the researchers! On the other hand, it was the first time I had seen a jellyfish like that so I was happy to deal with it and have time to study it close up!
Thanks so much for the great question Dyllon!
take care and safe seas,
Lisa
