Emma - great question, since I was a boy I have loved to study explorers - people like Columbus who came to America, Amundsen who went to the South Pole, and Armstrong who went to the moon - and I would always dream that maybe someday I'd get to be part of some great adventure too.  So when I was offered this chance to be part of an international expedition exploring a part of world few people ever see I was really excited.  My wife and kids were incredibly supportive and said they'd like me to go as well - even if it meant our first ever Christmas apart as a family.  So I said yes and got to go!
