 Hi Jeff,

I showed my students your video and they think and I quote "He is *&% awesome".  We all enjoyed the video.  I am looking forward to pictures of the Albatross and various other birds.

Please stay safe!!! We look forward to other videos although I think this one will be hard to beat.

Stay warm and safe.

Wendy!
I am so glad that you and your students are having fun following my journey.  The truth is that my little video was fun to make and safety is not a big concern on this ship.  The officers have briefed us well and have closed off the decks and sometimes the bridge for much of the last 4 days.  When I shot the video it was just as we entered the Drake Passage and the seas were much more playful than they have been the last few days.  The mighty Oden is very safe as long as you always keep one hand free to hold on.  Some of the scientists have been on over 20 research cruises and many crossings of the Drake but everyone agrees that to be at sea 10 days from Montevideo and we are still a day from our first research stop makes this the longest transit they have ever endured. Plus, the last 4 days on the Drake have been the longest stretch of rough, rolling seas they have every seen.  Lucky me.  I must admit, and this cannot surprise you, that except for a constant background level of nausea and very little sleep and even less good coffee, I am loving the trip so far.  I keep hearing a line from a ‘70’s song, (do you remember the ‘70’s?).  “We may never pass this way again…”  I don’t want to miss or complain about a single moment!
Take care, and say hi to your students and family,
Jeff
