Hello Jeff---

It's Mr. Dolloff (Andy)... I just want to say how awesome I think this entire thing is. The teachers and students at Copnhagen were very impressed with your visit, and I know of many classes here who continue to follow your journey. It was very generous of you to squeeze us in for a visit on the day before your departure. I look forward to every post. Even though your communication is limited, the caliber of your journal entries and pictures continue to amaze me, so I just wanted to send a collective Thank You from all of us here at CCS!

Now for a question, which I hope hasn't been previously answered:

How much fuel do you need to carry on the ship for the trip? Is there any opportunity for refueling along the way?

Andy

Andy!  (I mean, Mr. Dolloff)It was such a pleasure to visit you and Copenhagen School.  I am glad we were able to fit it into the schedule.  It means so much to me and everyone else on the Oden to know that thousands of folks like you and your school are excited about out expedition and are following the journals.
Your question about fuel usage is so important that I want to discuss it in today’s journal and I need to go get some facts and figures from the ship’s engineer.  I do know that we are burning a very heavy fuel oil that looks like tar at room temp and must be constantly heated in order to make it flow into the engines.  I can also tell you that we burn many cubic meters of fuel a day.  Montevideo is the only place in this corner of the globe to get the heavy fuel we need and the Oden refueled there about Nov 28th.  She will not be back to Montevideo for fuel until Feb or March.  We will probably not even see another ship until we reach McMurdo over a month from now.
Take care, and those questions coming!
Jeff  (I mean Mr. Peneston)
