Jake!If you keep asking questions, I won’t forget.
The ice core team will measure the thickness of the sea ice at every station.  Based on last year, we expect the sea ice to be 1-2 meters thick but as we get closer to the coast we may find sea ice that is more than one year old and it could be thicker.  Generally most of the sea ice melts by the end of every summer.
The underwater video camera pole that my students created is about 2.5 meters and we hope it will be long enough to get the camera under the ice. If you write back in about a month I will be able to give you actual ice thickness data that you can add to your report.  I will also let you know about the food and “delicacies” on the ship.
Have fun & make memories,
