how cold has Antartica got

Jeff Peneston

I will be on the icebreaker Oden along the coast of the Antarctic continent so I will not get to feel the serious cold at the South Pole.  I will also be there during the beginning of summer (Dec-Jan) so I don't expect to experience temperatures below 0 degrees F.
However, Antarctica is the coldest place on Earth and deep inside the continent during the 5-6 months of winter darkness the world record for coldest temperature was set at Vostok on Aug 25, 1960.
The temperature got down to
 -126.9 °F.  which is  -88.3 °C
 YIKES!!
Take care, and stay warm,
 Jeff Peneston
