Dear Mr. Peneston,

I am a student in Mr.  Calderwood's class.  I would just like to thank you for these updates!  Not only do I look forward to coming home from school to read your blog everyday and view your videos but the rest of my family asks how you are doing as well.

I would like to ask what you miss from home the most and what you think you will miss when you get home?

Thank you and good luck.  Go 'Pool!

Elizabeth!
When we are so far from home, it is easy to miss many things.  Life on board the Oden is very comfortable and the days are so busy that there isn’t much time to notice that you have no TV or Internet.   Mostly I just miss my friends and family.  I feel a little like a college student who has gone off for the first time at school and will not see their family for a couple of months.  Sometimes I really need to talk to the people who know me the best.
When I get home I will deeply miss the magical environment of this place.  So much of what I am experiencing can’t be described in words of pictures.   On the Oden I have also made friends that I will miss.  They are the kind of friends who I have shared the magic of Antarctica with and I will miss being able to talk with them about it.
All of this is repeated in all of our lives.  We leave what is familiar to experience new things and so in a way, missing things is not only natural, it means you are having an interesting life and you are learning new things.
I hope this answer makes sense. It is so nice to know you and your family are enjoying my adventure.  Keep reading the journals and keep asking such good questions.Making memories in the ice,
Jeff
