Cool

Jeff Peneston

When we start to drill into the sea ice when never know how thick it will be or what we will find.  It is very cool to look at ice that is tea color and to know that millions of phytoplankton (algae) and bacteria are living in it.  Then you consider that as the ice melts in summer, these communities of living things will be released into the sea to become part of the food source for the krill that ultimately feed the penguins, seals and whales.
Take care,
