Hi Cristina, My students and I are excited to join you and your team tomorrow. A couple of quick questions: 1) How many cubs does a polar bear mom usually have? I know moose traditionally have two. 2) One of the researchers from France that I worked with in the Arctic said that you can tell when polar bears are hungry. He said that if they have eaten a seal recently, they have a dirty rear end. They are "safer" to encounter, because they are not desperately hungry. Is there any truth to this? 3) My guess on the last sound is not aliens, but the guy from the movie "Police Academy" that does all the imitations. Betsy Wilkening 7th graders Wilson K-8 Tucson, AZ

Hi Betsey! It was great to hear that you were on the call today!
Polar bears generally have two cubs every three years. I just posted a
response to Lollie's class about the same topic. Check it out for a bit
more information.
For the second question, I ran that idea by some of the researchers here
and none of them had heard that before. It seemed to make sense,
however none of them are going to risk it by going near a bear unless it
has been tranquilized!
For the sound, check out the 10/6 journal for the answer!
Thanks,
Cristina
