How many bears you already found and examined? Hadar Ben David, Israel

Cristina Galvan

Hi Hadar!Today was the first successful day in terms of being able to examine the
bears. We had been able to see some of the bears from the helicopter but
were unable to land due to a lack of good ice.
However, today the team collected on one bear and her cub. They were also
able to collect data on one other bear that was not part of the original
study.
Hopefully, we will be able to collect more data tomorrow.
Thanks,
Cristina

Do you know if the bear they were working on was a new bear or one previously sampled?

Cristina Galvan

Hi,They were able to work on three bears yesterday.
One was a female adult that they had previously sampled and had placed a
temperature probe in. The second bear was her cub.
The third bear was a new bear. They performed some basic analysis on the
bear - blood, breath, fur, etc.
Hope that answers your question.

Your photos of the bears are amazing! I'm so glad you found some. The students are touched by your work. Although you're far away, I think we all understand how immediate and important your work is to all of us here. Keep it up and enjoy the sundaes!the other Ms. G
