Please describe the night sky.

What sound do you hear so far away from larg population areas and vehicles?

Cristina Galvan

Hi,You know, honestly - the Polar Sea is quite noisy at night. I wish I
could talk about the quiet serenity of the vast ocean, but it's really
noisy here! Throughout the night there are various mechanical sounds -
engines running, metal clanging, parts creaking. At times, we can hear
the sounds of the ice as it scrapes past the hull of the boat - almost
like nails on a chalkboard.
So far, at night the sky has been mostly cloudy - one night I saw a few
stars peeking through the clouds. I also finally saw a tiny bit of the
aurora, but it wasn't very strong. It looked like green fog in the
distant sky, rather than dancing lights.
I'm hoping for a clear night tonight and am on the "Aurora Watch" list -
meaning the bridge will come and wake me up if there is a good aurora
night.
Thanks,
Cristina
