Polar Bear Response to Sea Ice Loss

How do you justify tranquilizing, performing the biopsy, etc. to get scientific data?

Hi,Great question - Doing all of the data collection and exams on the bears
is stressful to them.
However, the scientist try to do it all in a way that is the least
invasive to the bears. They are careful to monitor the bears and
perfect their technique so that the bears heal quickly.
The data that they are getting helps us to better understand the polar
bears so that we can better understand how changes in the arctic might
affect them.
