I've noticed you've mentioned being bothered and bitten by mosquitoes--even when it rains--in several journal entries. Why are there so many around the field sites?

Hi Katie,The tundra is really ideal habitat for mosquitoes. Water is everywhere, and this provides plentiful spots for mosquito larvae to develop. I've done some camping in a variety of wetland areas and even the Everglades, but nothing compares to the intensity of the mosquitoes I've experienced in the arctic.
