Hi Ms. Hermann, First off, I was just wondering how you were doing. It had to be a major adjustment to become accustomed to the frigid cold. Secondly, I was wondering, what types of animals will you encounter while in the Antarctic? And will you get to interact with these animals? I hope all is going well and that you are learning a lot and having tons of fun. We miss you! Sincerely, Jon Smith

Hi Jon,Thanks for the note! It's great to hear from you. I'm doing fine. I'm still on board the Laurence M. Gould and we are traveling through the Drake Passage. I wrote a journal about some of the animals I'll see-check it out! It's the journal from 1-23-2012. Just click on the journals tab from my website and you'll be able to find it. I hope to see several species of seabirds, 3 species of penguins, and possibly some humpback whales. I won't be interacting with the animals, but I'll be sure to take photos. The animals I'll have the most interaction with are invertebrates; a species of snail and a species of limpet, which the scientists I'll be working with are studying for their ocean acidification project. I am definitely learning a lot and will have much to share through my journals and even more once I get home!
Keep following!
