Nell,

Good morning from South LE. Your berth area looks like there's more space than on the CG Cutter's Jeff's been on! How's the food so far? - fresh since you've just left? Is there a separate wardroom or do you eat in the lounge area? What wildlife have you seen on the water?

Does your survival suit have a GPS or just a beacon?

Hi Tami and 2nd period South LE!The food is great! For lunch I had meatloaf, fresh asparagus, fresh broccoli and cauliflower. My berthing area is actually pretty comfortable. Since I'm down in the cargo hold (below deck) the ride is a bit less bumpy. There is a separate galley and mess hall; I'll post pictures of that soon. I've seen a lot of birds including giant petrels (the projectile vomiting birds that Dr. Amsler talked about during his visit), Antarctic skuas and Southern cormorants. Before lunch I saw a pod of dusky sided dolphins. That was exciting!
My survival suit doesn't have GPS; just a beacon. We had a man overboard drill after lunch today!
Keep in touch,
Nell

Did you have a job for the man overboard drill? How cold is the water? How long will your survival suit keep you warm? Is there an international coast guard presence in Antarctic - who helps mariners in need? Tami
