hi Nell,

A followup question from the other day...did you have a job during the man overboard drill? How long will your survival suit keep you warm in the water - what is the water temp? Is there an international coast guard presence in Antarctica? Who helps mariners in need?

Where are the geologists from that are working on the island?

Thanks.

Tami

Hi Tami,I didn't have a specific job other than getting myself to the muster station for instructions with my PFD and in my survival suit. Yes, there is a Venezuelan and Chilean Coast Guard presence here. The water temperature is about 34 degrees and from what I've been told, the survival suit will keep you warm (alive) for about 20 minutes in water like this.
The geologists are from the University of Wisconsin and the University of Lisbon in Portgugal (I just added more information and pictures to that journal, so check it out again!). The internet connection is realllly slow on the boat, so I can't put quite as much in my journals as I'd like to. I think I'll have a better connection at Palmer Station!
