Do the midges bite like mosquitoes do?

HI!I think the answer is no, but I want to double check with my friend, Yuta Kawarasaki, who studies them. I know they eat algae and (I think) bacteria so I don't think they have sucking mouthparts like mosquitoes. Great question and I will get back to you. Yuta is still at Palmer Station and I'm on the ship now, so it may take a day or two to get a definite answer.
