Dear Mr. Botella

Hi I am Kaya from Samule E. Talbert Middle School. I am in Mr. Wood's fourth period class. I have a couple questions if you don't mind answering them. What is it like being on a ship? What kind of animals have you seen and will see? How is the weather like? What is a CFC?I also loved the Supermoon pictures! I think it is very fascinating! Thank you and I hope you reply!

Hi Kaya, thanks for writing. Life on the boat has been great. There is not much
to do, so I have been very productive working. I also get to have fun
playing ping-pong and foosball. I have seen the following animals:
humpback and Minke whales, orcas, Wedell, Leopard and Crabeater seals,
Petrels, Albatross and Skuas as flying birds and lots and lots of penguins.
The weather outside has been very variable. We get a lot of storms with
very strong winds (40 nautical miles per hour) with snow. Some days are
clear but chilly.
CFC is the abbreviation we use for some gases made by humans that we used
to use on industry. CFC stands for Chlorofluorocarbonates. We used these
gases in our refrigerators and air conditioners. we also used them in spray
cans and more. We stopped producing them because when they travel to the
top of the atmosphere and reduce the amount of ozone there. Ozone in the
upper atmosphere is good for us because it absorbs the ultra violet rays
form the sun Without the ozone layer we would be more easily sunburned and
develop skin cancer.
I am glad you liked the supermoon pictures. It was quite an amazing
experience.
Thanks again for writing,
Juan.
