Hi, Robert,  Where are you today??  Much sun here but only high 40s and windy.  End of term tomorrow, kids getting spring fever....  Have you seen any Northern Light displays?  Can you describe base camp conditions?  HHS Mike H.

Hello Mr. Harris, back here in Vermont the weather has been very warm and I was wondering how much the weather has varied? We have been getting a lot of rain up here in the New England region. If any, how much precipatation has there been?Thank You,
Owen OQS

Hi Mike and HHS!Your question was just forwarded to me. The first day at the ice camp was quite cold -34 F wind chill. Today there isn't any wind. Last night the hut was like a sauna! So we drilled some vent holes along the roof and put a movable cover. The walking is just like in Vermont with snow cover. Big blocks of ice varied surfaces. Just what the ice physics scientists are looking for. There were some northern lights in Fairbanks. Some of the teachers got up to see them, but I must admit I slept through. Nice to hear from you.

Hi Owen,I am glad to get your email.  It is spring time up here too.  In Fairbanks the mornings were -10 F and warming up to 28 F.  I am now on the ice camp.  My first day was tough -34 F with the wind chill.  Today was quite nice.  No wind and 22 F.  There hasn't been any snow or rain.  I understand that you are going to get some snow!  Do you suppose you will get a snow day?

Hello again Mr. Harris,It's April 13 today and I just recieved your letter.  Answering your question, yes, we got a bit of snow(about 3  inches). We didn't get to have a snow day but we had a two hour delay. Yesterday into this morning we got around 4 inches. It's starting to get to be like winter a little bit late this year because we're due for another couple inches from sunday to Monday.
Thank You,
Owen OQS

Hi Owen,I left the Ice Camp on Saturday the 14th.  It was about 0 F, but with wind chill  about -12 F.  There was snow and ice all around.  When I got to Anchorage it was 38 F.  In Fairbanks the snow had melted in a lot of places and was 48F.  It is mud season here, the beginning of spring.  I hear that you are getting a true N'or'easter, back there in Vermont.  Did you get snow or freezing rain?  It is a nice sunny day here in Fairbanks.  Enjoy the rest of your break!
