Why is the dirt there so important? How does the dirt effect the environment?

Hi Savannah,I would like to start with a distinction. Dirt is what you might clean off the floor at home or out of your clothes when they get dirty. Soil, however, is an environment that contains living organisms. The soil plays an important role in our environment on many levels. Consider for a moment your favorite foods. Are there any that would be possible without plants? Thanks for the question. I am trying to enjoy every last bit of the trip, thanks.JK
