South Pole Ozone Changes

 

Hi Elke,

You mentioned that there are some restricted areas in which your instruments might fall. Why are they restricted? Also how far will you have to travel to retrieve the package?

Hi Kirk, The restricted area is the "quiet zone", the seismology area. We had permission to enter it on Friday. Seismologist noted the time to account for the snow mobile vibration. We had to go for 2 miles at much less than 10 miles per hour. The ozone sonde of the Sunday flight landed even further, although we adjusted the take off point. So we might have to "ride off " the instruments.  We have more to work with for this particular surface ozone project.
