Hi Tim,

I've been following your journals and love hearing about your journey! I wanted to check in and see how things were going. It's incredible that you will be working with the penguins for a while! How has it been researching them? Have you learned anything new about them?

Also, when will you head to the South Pole and work at the AGOs?

Keep warm and I hope you are enjoying your expedition--it sounds fascinating!

Sincerely, Michelle

Michelle,I just came back into McMurdo today, and leave for South Pole in the morning. I had an incredible time at Cape Royds, and learned lots about penguins. Some of the penguins have been tagged and so we are finding the tagged birds and finding out if they have a partner, and if they do does the pair have any eggs. Most pairs usually have two eggs in the nest per season. From what Jean Pennycook (who has been there 7 seasons) they # of eggs seem to be lagging a bit for where we are in the season, but time will tell. The first chicks should appear sometime around mid December. Would have been great to see that, but I feel very fortunate to have just gotten the chance to go out there.
Thanks again for your question.
Best wishes, Tim
