Hi, my name is Jon'Carlos and I am taking a Marine 1 Science course at Pope John Paul II High School in Boca Raton, Florida. I wanted to ask you how hiking on the pressure ridges by Scott Base were dangerous.

Brian DuBay

Walking near pressure ridges is so dangerous because on the many unseen cracks. Snow can lightly cover a crack and when you step on it you go straight down many feet and could get stuck. Some cracks go all the way to the water which would be even worse. So we step lightly and poke the ground in front of every step to make sure it is solid ground.
