Hello, my name is Colin and I am currently taking a Marine Science course at Pope John Paul II High School in Boca Raton, Florida. I had a question. What kind of food do you have to eat when in the harsh climate of Antarctica?

Brian DuBay

In the field we eat a very high calorie and fat diet. At lunch for example we eat two huge sandwiches, one deli style the other usually peanut butter and jelly. Then you eat trail mix, crackers, chips, and chocolate bars to keep your sugar up. Also we drink many fruit juices and at least 60 ounces of water in an eight hour period. Once back at base we eat a lot of pork, chicken, pastas, and tons of dessert to fuel up for the night. Breakfast usually consists of lots of eggs, bacon, pancakes, and more juices. In a given day we usually consume around 5000 calories!
