Jill Smith received a bachelor's degree in biology from Texas A&M Corpus Christi in 1995, with minors in chemistry and environmental science. In 2005, she completed requirements for a master's degree in secondary education. She has been teaching for the Port Aransas Independent School District in Texas since the fall of 2006. In that period of time she has taught biology, pre-AP biology, chemistry, physics, environmental science, anatomy and physiology and integrated physics and chemistry. She has been a cooperating teacher with the GK-12 program for four years.
She sponsors two debate teams, and two extemporaneous speaking teams. She is co-founder of her school's environmental club The Planeteers which manages the school's recycling program and volunteers for beach clean-ups and other community beautification projects. She has an amazing eleven year old son named Nathan Ray, who keeps her on her toes!
