Hi Mike- I'm looking forward to following your expedition. Shoe advice for McMurdo--get some mid-weight sort of snow-appropriate shoes that can double as indoor shoes. Like some winter running shoe sort of a shoe.

Have a great time!!

Susy,Thanks for logging in. I've definitely had some shoe quandaries to deal with. Lots of different ideas - everything from Sorels to hiking boots, both of which I have and are in the "do I take it" pile. Sorels are really big.
Take care and enjoy the ski season!

Thanks for the advice. Shoes have been a definite quandary. I've gotten several different pieces of advice from basic hiking boots to Sorels - both of which I have, but packing the Sorels is not an appealing thought. I guess barefoot probably is not an option.

don't forget the running shoes! if you're stuck in mcmurdo it's good to have some exercise-related footwear. skip the sorels--you'll have your usap-issued boots. bring hiking shoes.and most of all have a great time!!

hand, I'll go anyway whether those silly things are done or not!
