Jennifer Bault

Hi Alia,
Great question. Living here is very much like being on an extremely
cold and snowy college campus. My 'dorm' room is a standard UW style
room though currently I have no roommate, hoping not to get one! I've
kinda spread out on both sides! Meals are all served in a different
building and it is much like a collegiate cafeteria with many choices
for each meal. One of the biggest changes for me is the change in
routine. I've been in school mode for so long it is hard to get used to
not being on a schedule but yet being at work if that makes any sense at
all.

I am looking forward to returning home and sharing the experience. See
you in a few weeks,

Jennifer

We miss you, a lot, but we hope you're having fun and learning a lot! Did you guys do anything fun for Halloween? I can't imagine what you'd do considering your limited time and resources. Stay safe, and enjoy yourself!

It was so nice to see you and hear from you! We all miss you so much. It different having another teacher come in in the middle of the year and take over. It was amazing hearing all the fun things you get to do and how much you love being down there. I am so grateful that we get to share this opportunity with you and can't wait for you to come back!

Hi Mrs. Bault!! Your livestream was so cool, you looked so happy (even though it was 3:30 in the morning)! Hope you're having a blast, we miss you a lot. A couple students dressed up as you for the volleyball game and a couple more dressed as penguins. We're hoping you come back as soon as possible!

I have learned about here. Thanks for joining my polarconnect today!
I loved hearing your voice!

How are you doing looks like everything is going great you are enjoying yourself have another great day love dad

Jennifer Bault

Hey Cori,
Great question. Sorry I did not get around to answering that in the
polarconnect. We do a lot of hiking and/or visiting/shopping at Scott
Base. It is not a big shop, but they have different items then here.
There is a coffee "house" but I haven't spent much time there. There
are also two adult establishments but haven't had the time to frequent
those either. I am actually pretty busy most of the days sometimes till
midnight. So, whatever down time exists is usually hiking or the
science talks on Wed. and Sun. evening! So much to see and learn!

Miss you kids,

Mrs. Bault

Andrew,Another great question! Craziest change would have to simply be the
change in routine...boring answer, but it is a truthful one. My entire
life has been about following a school routine. There is no routine
here. Each day is different. That has been odd to get used to. There
is no set time each day I have to be in the office. Today it was 8:30
but yesterday I was here by 7:30. When we are in the field, somedays,
we don't make it back before dinner. Other times when we are not in the
field I feel like I am twiddling my thumbs trying to find stuff to do so
I will go and do laundry or write postcards or something!

The life of a scientist is a little different!

Miss you kids,

Mrs. Bault

Thanks. I hope we were clear and that the kids enjoyed it. I miss them much. The life as a scientist is so different than that of a classroom
teacher. I am not sure I would trade places. As awesome as being here
is and the amazing science going on, I really do love teaching and miss
it terribly. I am staying warm so far. Fingers crossed for continued
good weather! Hope the kids are doing well and behaving!

like a crazy person! I heard about the v-ball game and Dr. Kabara sent
a pic he took. Thinking that pic may show up in one of my journals! It
really warmed my heart. Hope class is going well. See you in a few weeks,

Hi Kiley,
Great question. This trip has been everything I hoped it would be and a
ton more. I knew I would be involved in the research project of my
team, but was completely unaware of how many other cool projects were
going on down here and that I would have the opportunity to meet and
talk with these scientists. It is more than a dream come true!

Miss you kids, see you in a few weeks,

Raphael,
Great question! There is research being done on just about every facet
of science you could imagine. There are different groups working on all
of the following: Weddell Seal pups, Adelie Penguins, Emperor Penguins,
Weather stations, Volcanism, Ice Caves, Diatoms, Tardigrades, Sea Ice,
LiDar, EcoImpacts, Fish proteins, Diving expeditions, Neutrinos, and
everything in between. It is the most amazing place for research. I
miss you kids and hope class is going well. See you in a few weeks,

Hi Mrs. Bault! It was so much fun video chatting with you and the other researchers yesterday! You looked really happy and it was such a cool experience that we got to have as well. I miss you so much! I can't wait for you to get back. :)

Micky

It's hard for me to think of taking the time to build a structure like that in the Arctic Cold, I'm sure those pioneers would have loved to have a place like McMurdo station to base their expeditions. Even still, that is an amazing historical site and it is so cool that it is so well preserved.

Emma Barger

It was so exciting to see you during the broadcast yesterday! All the work you are doing is so cool and I can't wait to hear more about it when you get back. Have fun!

Alexandra

Do you ever get bored and if so what do you do? Hope everything is good!

Amanda Mlekoday

Hi Mrs.Bault! I really enjoyed watching your video call yesterday, I hope everything is going well there! I was really surprised to hear it wasn't too cold. The hut is super cool.

Gwen Costello

Mrs. Bault,
I really miss you! Can't wait for you to get back! I have a couple questions for you. 1) What is there to do during the time you’re not doing research? 2) How do you feel about being in Antarctica?
That's it. Once again, really miss you!

Much love,
Gwen C.

Jaden Aranda

Hey Mrs. Bault! Thank you so much for taking the time at 3:00 am to skype us. It was so cool seeing our teacher doing amazing things outside of Nicolet. I'm so glad that you are having an amazing time. You deserve it. Enjoy the rest of your trip and stay safe.
