Finally Here!

After months of anticipation, I’m finally here!

One long airplane ride and four trains later, I arrived at Grindelwald and stepped off the train to take in the views of the Alps around me. I couldn’t help but notice how hot it was. Not exactly the cool weather of a mountain town I was expecting. Switzerland is experiencing record heat this summer, much like the rest of the world (more on this later).

I am staying at a campsite while here, and my gracious host was nice enough to pick me up at the train station and show me around town and the campsite. I’m actually “glamping” in a 1960’s caravan and it is one of the most adorable things I have ever seen. I also have amazing views just outside the door.

The afternoon ended with a giant rainstorm, so I took the opportunity to catch up on all the sleep I missed over the last two days. 14 hours later (yes, I was exhausted), I’m up and checking out the hiking map, and plotting my course for the day.

I will report back later how my first hike went.

Haiku of the Day

Guest author, my friend Maria Luisa, wrote this haiku for me.

Leaving on a plane
Going to see the glaciers
I love rocks and ice

Hi Lauren,
Well, you certainly can't beat the view of where you are staying! I think going a bit early to get ready for your expedition was a great idea. I think Poppy is also ready for some hiking. Love the haiku!
