I spent all of yesterday hanging out in Terminal 2 of the San Francisco airport (if you're going to wait at SFO, T2 is pretty much the best one to get stuck in). However, they finally put me on a plane to Dallas and I am here until late tonight before I leave to go to Santiago. As of right now, there are no empty seats on any flights into Punto Arenas for a couple of days, but I have faith that the US Antarctic Program (USAP) is going to make some magic happen.
Since I, of course, packed at the last minute yesterday morning I thought I'd take a look and double check and see if I forgot to pack something I really needed. Because I dumped everything out, I figured I'd also show you all the clothes I brought with me.
All the clothing in my luggageThis is more stuff than I have EVER taken on a vacation in the last 10 years. When I travel, I almost always backpack and I'm still shocked and amazed at all the room I still have in my bags. There are 4 pairs of shoes in that picture and that doesn't even include another pair on my feet. That is insane! Who needs that many shoes? I think I'm overpacking because I'm just not exactly sure what I'm going to need. If I have a few too many t-shirts that just means I don't have to do laundry as often. :)
You can also see I brought with me a few books to read. I'm not sure how much time I'll have, but I'm excited to read on these long flights and I like having a selection to choose from based on my mood. In addition to everything you see above, I also have a bunch of computer related stuff and my bag of toiletries.
Anyways, I'm off to Santiago tonight and then hopefully I'll be in Punta Arenas not too long after that!
