Today I was able to go on one more run on the beach. The beach is one of my favorite places to spend my time. Running for me has always been a fun way to get exercise and relieve stress. I started running about five years ago when I ran a half marathon at Disney World Florida. Since than, I have run in many more races all over the US but mostly at Disney. Most Saturdays I meet my friends to run at the beach. We run several miles together and when we are done we chat over coffee and have breakfast. I haven't always enjoyed distance running but over the last several years I have become a devoted runner.
Two weeks ago my students and I got the chance to chat with the PolarTREC flight crew. While talking some members of the crew mentioned that they went running on the ice and that it was so cold that their eyelashes froze. Part of me wants to run on the ice just to see how it feels and another part of me thinks that running at the gym will be good enough. The more I think about it the more I am leaning towards running outside. I want to feel what it's like to run on the ice and compare it to running on the beach. Knowing how clumsy I am I'm more worried about falling on the ice than running in the extreme temperatures.
I'm including some pictures of myself from my last run at Disney. I participated in the Disney Princess 10k this past February. I had a great time and got a chance to combine two of the things I love, Disney and running. My favorite thing to eat at Disney is Dole Whip. A Dole Whip is a pineapple flavored frozen dessert. One of the jokes with me and my friends are that I run for Dole Whips. I do seem to get one after every Disney race I participate in. At this last week I took a picture holding a sign about running for Dole Whip. I borrowed the sign from a spectator who was cheering for her husband. I guess I am not the only person who loves these tasty treats. In the other picture I am holding my medal. My students always ask me if I did well in the race. I show them my medal and tell them that I got a medal so that means I got first place. Of course they don't believe me but they laugh along with me and congratulate me on a job well done.
This is the Dole Whip sign that Adeena Teres borrowed from a spectator. It's a great sign! This is Adeena Teres at mile six. Only point one miles left until the finish line.I'm also including a video of me at the beach. It's a bit windy but it was a gorgeous day.
